Abstract
Waste to Transportation Fuels in Israel- Potential and Challenges
A recent techno-economic analysis that was conducted for the Ministry of National Infrastructures, Energy and Water Resources, and the Ministry of Environmental protection, evaluated the potential to produce transportation fuels from waste in Israel.
The attractiveness of Renewable fuels stems from their capability to provide solution to 2 burning demands: Replacing oil based fuels and reducing the amount of waste disposal.
While a number of bio and thermo chemical technologies exist for the production of transportation fuels from waste, lack of incentives to this sector, affect the lack of operational experience in the field, both in Israel and around the world and therefore, hamper the economic feasibility of those technologies and their competitiveness with conventional fuels produced from oil or natural gas.
