Thursday, October 24, 2013, 09:00-16:00

A visit to the heart of the old city, starting with an amazing view of the Old City from Mount of Olives. At the entrance there is an ancient olive tree orchard, which leads to a beautiful structure with twelve domes representing the Twelve Apostles.

"Gethsemane” comes from “Gat Shemen” in Hebrew, which means olive press. Of course this is due to the many natural growing olive trees in the area.

Continue to the renovation and restoration work at the "David's Tomb" on Mount Zion. It is a site traditionally viewed as the burial place of David, King of Israel. The tomb is situated in a ground floor corner of the remains of the former Hagia Zion, a Byzantine church; the upper floor of the same building has traditionally been viewed as the Cenacle of Jesus.
Enter the Old City through Zion Gate and walk through the alleys of the city to the Jewish Quarter where we will visit the remains of the Roman-Byzantine Cardo - the main market street of the city at that time.

Continue to the heart of the old city for an amazing view of the Temple Mount with its Mosques and Wailing Wall. Proceed to the Wailing Wall plaza, the most sacred place of worship for Jews and prominent remnant of the Temple house.

Haifa- Bahá’í Gardens & Caesarea

Friday, October 25, 2013, 08:00-17:00

The Bahai Gardens in Haifa comprise a staircase of nineteen terraces extending all the way up the northern slope of Mount Carmel. The geometry of the complex is built around the axis connecting it with the City of ‘Akko, which also has great historical and sacred significance for Bahais. At its heart stands the golden-domed Shrine of the Báb, which is the resting place of the Prophet-Herald of the Bahai Faith.

While different parts of the gardens offer a variety of experiences, they speak in a common language of graveled paths, hedges and flower beds groomed and nurtured by dedicated gardeners. The gardens frame panoramic views of the city, the Galilee Hills and the Mediterranean Sea.

The tour will then continue to Caesarea, the city that still holds the magic of Roman times. The city underwent vast changes under Herod the Great, who renamed it Caesarea in honor of the emperor. In 22 BCE he began construction of a deep sea harbor and built storerooms, markets, wide roads, baths, temples to Rome and Augustus, and imposing public buildings. Every five years, the city hosted major sports competitions, gladiator games and theatrical productions. Today, Caesarea’s antiquities park is one of Israel’s most impressive venues, filled with fascinating fortresses, an amphitheatre, aqueduct and other structures that are a living testimony to 2300 years of history. The original amphitheatre, with its acoustics that have remained perfect over thousands of years, is used for live performances – singers, musicians, symphonies and a host of open-air events.

The tour includes lunch at “Port Coffee” Restaurant in Caesarea
