Call
for EMC Experiments Demonstrations
We are planning to hold special sessions on EMC Experiments
Demonstrations at the 2003 IEEE International Symposium
on EMC in Istanbul, Turkey.
This session is devoted to illustrating important EMC concepts through
a series of interactive experiments performed continuously over a three-day
period. The experiments demonstrate EMC concepts and principles, phenomena
and effects, and measurement methods. Past experiments have demonstrated
the effects of PC board radiation coupling; component-cable crosstalk;
grounding and shielding strategies; spectral analysis techniques using
test hardware; effective EMC test methods and practices; use of EMC
instrumentation to measure interference at the device or component level;
and the role of EMC standards as part of overall measurement practices.
The demonstrations show how in most cases, fairly simple test hardware
can be used to quantify various electromagnetic effects.
The experiments are performed by people in the international EMC community
representing industry, government and academia.
The experiments will demonstrate the use of measurement systems and
novel techniques for quantifying electromagnetic interactions. Other
demonstrations will illustrate commercial EMC measurement principles
and practices. These will focus on innovative concepts and methods that
are of interest to practicing EMC engineers.
Hands-on participation during the demonstrations is encouraged. The
demonstrations may cover any topic of EMC, including those based upon
the EMC-S Education Committee’s EMC Experiments Manual,
Vol. I & II. Several popular Experiment demonstrations from previous
years are also welcomed.
If you are interested in having an Experiments Demonstration considered,
please submit by e-mail only a short written proposal
to the Symposium Secretariat at emc2003@ortra.co.il
or to Andy Drozd at a.l.drozd@ieee.org
no later than January 15, 2003.
The proposal should include:
i) Title of Demonstration
ii) Presenter Name(s)/Company Affiliation including city/state/country
iii) 1st/2nd choice for preferred day/time period (e.g., Tuesday AM,
Wednesday PM, etc.)
iv) A 50-word description.
v) Description of necessary (standard) test equipment
Please
indicate in the e-mail subject line the title: “EMC Experiments
- EMC’2003”.
Please note that presenters will be required to bring special jigs and
non-standard components.
